Our Story

We didn't name ourselves. Our clients did

It didn’t start with a logo, a website, or a business plan.

It started long before we had a name for it.

In those early years, Tunbi was working in human resources.

On paper, her job was policies, leave memos, and appraisals. But in reality, people brought her their whole lives. They came because they were overwhelmed, had strained marriages, grief followed them to work, anxiety kept them awake at night, and burnout was wearing them down while they still had to smile through the day.

She had a gift for it. She didn’t just handle the official complaint — she made people feel seen. Not with long speeches, but by listening well. By creating a small pocket of safety in the middle of a busy workday, where someone could finally breathe out and say, “I’m not okay.”

She carried those moments home — not the names, never the gossip, just the weight of what people were going through.

So at night, long after work was over, we would stay up talking.

I, Tòsín, would watch how deeply she cared and how much lighter people seemed after speaking with her.

Night after night, the same pattern kept showing up: different faces, same ache. People were holding it together at work, providing for their families, showing up in church and in society, but privately falling apart because they had nowhere safe to put what they were carrying.

We began to notice it clearly, and we couldn’t ignore it.

In our culture, strength is praised, and resilience is expected. We’re taught to endure, to keep going, to protect the family, to show up at work, to smile in public, and to say “I’m fine” even when we’re not.

The problem was never that people had nothing to say. It was that many had nowhere safe to say it — no place to take off the mask, no space where vulnerability would be mistaken for weakness, no room to say “I’m not okay” without fear of shame, gossip, or dismissal.

Talk Space — Made for anywhere you are

So we created a space — a chair, a quiet corner, someone willing to listen, and a promise you could talk about anything.

What began as our late-night conversations slowly became a calling, then a practice, then a community built on one belief: people heal better when they have a safe place to be heard.

For a while, we operated under a different name. It was professional, and it described what we did, but it didn’t capture how it felt to be here.

Then one client changed everything.

She found us through a friend, who found us through another client. Three different women, three different lives, three different stories, connected by one sentence: “Go to them. They will hear you.”

Somewhere in the middle of her own journey, after experiencing a real shift in her life, she said, "Your name outside doesn’t match what you actually give in here. You don’t just offer a service. You are a true Talk Space.”

That was the moment it clicked.

We didn’t need to invent a name. Our clients had already named us.

Talk Space —

A space to talk. To be heard. To make sense of what hurts. To process, heal, reconnect, and grow.

That is what Talk Space Counselling Services is: a room where the mask can come off, not because you are weak, but because you’ve been strong for long enough.

Whether you meet us in Abuja, Lagos, or online from the privacy of your own space, we make support easier to access when you need it.

You don’t need perfect words, and you don’t have to be at your lowest point. Sometimes, saying “I need help” is enough to begin.

We know reaching out is hard. We know vulnerability can feel scary. But asking for help is not giving up. It is courage.

Sometimes healing begins with three simple words: “Can we talk?”

This room was built for you.

Your story is not over. Let’s give it space to unfold.
